The Young Professionals Program will host a panel discussion on the massive protests that have roiled Hong Kong this summer. This discussion will work to unpack what is driving the protests, what mainland Chinese may be thinking about the political unrest, how Beijing could seek to quell the turmoil, and Hong Kong’s political future. The panel will also cover Hong Kong’s history and how its unique political system came to be. The discussion will be moderated by former LAWAC President Terry McCarthy, and will feature Mr. Derek Grossman from the RAND Corporation and Dr. Clayton Dube of USC’s US-China Institute, with more panelists to be announced soon.
